The Tinga Family, Comox Valley Family Portrait
It really is pure love.
It is obvious that when they look at each they just see beauty. In each other’s eyes, they are each complete, they are each funny, they are each caring and wise. Each person is complete. And when you are with them, you are part of it, you feel complete- because that is how much heart they have. They have very special sparkle dust.
I first photographed the Tingas when Kailey was a teenager, it became an iconic McKinnon Photography that people mentioned to me often (you can see it at the end of the post.) I think it was because they could feel the goodness of the people in it and maybe, they were lucky enough to know the Tingas.
While what you see in these photos is a genuine joy - the Tingas have a big challenge in front of them. Carol was recently dealt the devastating hand of cancer. Carol was diagnosed with breast cancer earlier this year and now cancer has spread into her lungs. Treatment, including clinical trials for this type of cancer, is limited and Carol is seeking treatments that support her quality of life and wellness.
Carol’s friendship and kindness have reached all corners of our community and now the community is helping her and her family through an auction page. The funds generated will help reduce any financial stress or burden, so she and her family can focus on treatments and enjoying time together. As my contribution, I created these photos for them. The page has an abundance of beautiful items, seriously chec it out.
We shared tears on the phone before the sessions as she talked about the lessons in learning to accept support. Carol has gifted many people her talents, acceptance and care - she has helped so many people and now she is, in accepting our help, still teaching us, about how love also means receiving.
Carol and family, I hope you can feel the community hug that is surrounding you, and that moment like we shared, moments of joy, play and love, and seeing the world through your grandson’s eyes, continue to find you regularly as you walk through this crazy complicated beautiful life.
With all my heart and appreciation for time spent laughing with, and seeing you - Karen
And from the first time I photographed them:
