Celebrating Grad 2020

Grad2020.jpg

This year, we won’t have the opportunity to celebrate our high school grads in the traditional way. I am a mom of a 2020 Grad and I am heartbroken for them. It isn’t just about the grad ceremony, it’s about sharing and processing this pivotal time with their friends through final band concerts, sports games, grad fashion shows and bursary evenings. My grad? Well her and her friends are missing each other and the moments of being together that they had imagined.

Beyond the grad rituals, my heart is with these youth who already at a confusing time in their life, they are having to navigate the questions and challenges the pandemic presents them, on top of the usual y contemplation of their future. It is a lot!

Truthfully, I am a little heartbroken for me too actually. I love watching the kids walk across the stage, hearing about their potential plans, and taking in those little heartwarming tidbits their homeroom teachers share. It’s a symbolic day that I have envisioned for years. I am so proud of my daughter, and I wanted that moment to celebrate her, to thank her teachers, to cry with other moms.

However, as we keep saying in our family, we have a home, we are safe, and we are beyond fortunate to be in a community with so much natural beauty and heart. I know our community will come together to make them feel special and supported as they move forward with a bit more uncertainty than they expected as they left the high school halls.

Myself and three of my beautiful photographer friends were talking about what we could offer. I know photos will not replace all the moments we imagined, yet I know. .. well, it is hard to find the words how photos feel. Being photographed feels special and having those photos will bring joy, now and in the years to come. It will help us celebrate them.

So we created a specially priced session for the Grad Class of 2020.

  • They must be paid for before the end of June, however, they can take place anytime this summer. Why do they have to be paid for by the end of June? Because $50 from every session is going towards a bursary we are creating for a 2020 Comox Valley Grad who is pursuing the arts. The applications for this process will open up in July. This bursary was important to us as a group, we wanted to recognize the extra challenges that a student may face in starting school in 2020 and just let the grad class know – we see them!

  • If you know you want to book before I fill up, but are unsure about the exact timing that will work for you, do not hold off on contacting me. I will only be taking a limited amount of sessions, so we can put a tentative date in the calendar for you and adjust as needed.

  • Can my grad be photographed with all their friends? These sessions are made for one grad. If you are wanting numerous grads from different families they should book their own session. They could be booked back to back and we could photograph them together – as long as it fits any social isolation requirements.

Please email me at info@mckinnonphotography with your, and your grads’s name or call 250-703-3486 to book your session.

I look forward to creating and celebrating with you. Thank you for your support.
