Heather and Ken Comox Elopement
Who: Heather and Ken
Their story: Heather and Ken became engaged in March 2020 - and Ken worked hard for it. Ken and Heather live in two different provinces so when the pandemic shut-down was imminent, Ken drove thousands of kilometres in a blizzard from the Yukon to Calgary. He slept in his car en route and managed to get across the border in Alberta before they shut it down. Heather knew he was on his way, but had no idea that he was coming to propose. He arrived at her doorstep, and after a wonderful day where they were both excited and relieved to be together, he asked the big question. Heather was an immediate yes. She knew the first time she met him in 2019 that he was the one, and he felt the same. Their lives, with two different provinces, a pandemic, house renovations, a wedding that had to be rescheduled, has been filled with small adventures. However, it has so much peace. The type of quiet contentment that comes when you know you have found your best friend. To honor that intimacy, they chose to elope in the Comox Valley. It was a small group, with the two of them, their children zooming in, their air B & B hosts, celebrant Barbara Dunsmore and their makeup artists However, myself and the other vendors, weren’t just “vendors”, we all came to care deeply about this very special couple in the planning stages of their day. As you can imagine there wasn’t a dry eye in the room when Ken, an accomplished musician, pulled out his guitar to sing to Heather.
I am so happy this day happened, but truthfully, I kind of miss looking forward to their day. Prepping the photographs have been such a joy, and leaves me feeling so thankful for having the honour to capture these memories.
The details: Heather slipped on the class dress that she found in a thrift store. Their ceremony was officiated by the very special Barbara Dunsmore, Some celebratory champagne and treats took place at the adorable B&B Sevendune Cabin The hosts of the B&B organized the treats and made the delicious cake.
