Christine, the wall portraits are beautiful! I had tears in my eyes when I opened them up! I couldn’t wait until I got home, so some of my staff also got a look too.
It wasn’t about the napkins, the flowers, the invitations. Nor was it about where she was going to get ready or if he was going to wear a boutonniere. It honestly was one of the most stress-free Comox Valley Weddings that I have photographed, not because it was so finely planned and scheduled – the opposite. The plan was loose – arrive and celebrate!
In the late afternoon, friends arrived to join family for a pool party after which the bride and groom snuck away, ever so briefly, and returned to say their vows. Then it went back to being a pool party – it all made sense, it felt beautiful. There was no schedule, some fabulous speeches got thrown in (Kudos to Carl for the most animated speech I have yet to see), there was laughter, kids running, people dancing, food enjoyed.
I was so happy to be there. Really. Especially because I almost wasn’t. On the Monday before this wedding, I had a freak eye reaction. Random. I called Chris and Kendra to let them know ASAP, and I quickly arranged a back-up. I was a spiralling disaster about it. In true form, these two were so kind – telling me “we want you, if you are okay. Being okay is the most important thing.” I didn’t get the okay from the doctor until Friday at 5 pm. Staying in touch with these two throughout the week, they didn’t seem to break a sweat about it at all and were just incredibly caring. That is who they are.
I have known Chris for many years; our businesses have grown up together, he has trained me at his gym Bodynetix, he has been a friend and Kendra, well, you fall in love with her right away. She is the type of person that people feel safe with, she is easy to adore (even if I am still cursing her a bit for how sore I was after my workout with her at Bodynetix last week.)
Chris and Kendra’s journey started may years ago, with a non-eventful date. It took many years until they found their way back to each other, through a series of fateful circumstances that saw them working together. In a short time they have built a life inspiring others, pushing and growing together and taking on new challenges. Soon they are headed off for one year of plan-as-you-go travelling.
A beautiful way to start what is guaranteed to be a life well-lived.
Chris and Kendra, your day was just what you wanted and that makes me so sincerely happy. It is a well deserved gift that I hope you carry with you at all times. Remembering all the love and joy that such a fantastic group of people shared with you. Again, I was so happy to be there <3
